Know Thy Avenger !

Hi folks , Many of you have requested through mail to mention about my machine. Well I own an avenger and riding the same for last 5 years. For those pals who want to know about the drawbacks of this machine, I would say, yes  there are a few but compared to the performance and ride quality that it offers these are worth negligible. However, it is quite important to know your machine in order to realize its true quality.

So here are some that I have faced during thr first 10000 kms ride. Now pleased do not think that you should change your mind about this nice machine. Most of these are even with other high end machines.

Anyways here goes the list:

1). If you are riding on a monsoon day and on a track where you expect muddy or dusty roads, be a bit careful. In some cases especially if you are on a turn then there is a chance of getting skid. Otherwise its a cool journey.

2).When sun is overhead, reflections from the chrome plated fuel indicator on your petrol tank strikes the eyes. This is quite annoying at times. So just use a sun glass when you ride at day time.

3). One of the most annoying issue is with battery. In due course of time it goes off. I am sure the riders of other machine also faces such issues. Now let me tell you the average battery life is around four years. So once you cross this time line, its a natural issue. But if the machine is not used frequently then also due to lack of self recharge this can be there.

4). in case of some machines, the issue was not seen with the battery but with ports that connects with with the cell.

5). The rear shock absorb system may give up in due course of time. Ask your service guy to check this as changing these in initial stage is not a good option.

6).The engine gets heated up. However you may face this issue only when you are riding for more than 200 kms in one go that too at day time. Night riding will cause this after 250 kms. The best option is go give your machine a break og approximately 10 mins after every 75-80 kms on long rides. This ensure long engine life. Also keep changing the engine coolant on a timely basis. The issue is more frequently seen in case you are riding on a hilly terrain with steep slope.

7). One irritating issue is the loosening of lower nuts especially the ones near the engine. This at times creates leakage of  mobi oil.

8). The front disk brake need regular attention. This is with every machine. Now if you are a new new rider then you need to cautious as initially we have a habit of applying too much brakes. Care is too be taken when riding on a rainy day. Also, clean your discs properly after every service. The reason is that there could be traces of lubricants on the disc that loosens the grip.

These are all that I have faced till now. But then, there is nothing new as any machine has its own set of limitations.

A day trip to Nandi Hills !

Well friends, many of you has inquired about Nandi Hills near Bangalore and are keenly interested in knowing about the place and appreciate its beauty. So, here is how, I view this scenic hill top.

It is quite good with family, friends and even with your girl. I live near ITPL Bangalore. The hills are around 70 Kms from this place. Well it is open from 6 Am to 6 PM everyday but if you really want to feel he beauty of this place please visit it in monsoon on a weekday and try to reach there by Sunrise. Although the view may not be quite clear the sheer pleasure of feeling the morning mist on our face is quite good to remove your coding and error handling tension of IT life. Now, the roads are mostly good and will give a good ride till the hill top. The last 6-7 kms are will give the feel of hilly terrain. There are around 40 turns and 9 hair pin turns. I would say only two of these turns are having moderate slope. Rest all are easy to cover. So just get set and go there.

What to expect ?
Cool Breeze and misty woods on a monsoon day (Avoid Weekends as the rush is too much).

Ample flora and fauna.
Lush green parks.
Floating clouds at early morning time.
A lot of history chapters
And a panoramic view.

along with

Tipu drop point.
Nandi Temple
Nehru Nilaya
Bamboo shelters
Karnataka Government hotel
(Decent but may not be quite good for some of us)
One guest house.
A great door like that of a fort at the beginning.
tea and coffee stalls

and finally

Quite a good number of monkeys !!!

Now there is a lot of history behind this hills. Some say that the actual name is NandiDurg (Fort of Nandi) and was under Tipu's Rule untill it was attacked by British in Oct 1791. The references are even found in 'Browne's History of Scotland' as well as in  the records of the '71st Highlanders' among other references. Finally the summer palace was built by Francis Cunningham and the same is now renamed as Nehru Nilaya (Literally meaning house
 of Nehru).

Few details about Nandi Hills:
Height: Approx 1480m from MSL
Nearest township: Devanahalli Town
Nearest highway NH-7
but around 20 kms from this hill top.
Road Condition: Mostly good.

You may pass the entire day and just feel rejuvenate.

As with all historical places the temples, secret escape routes for kings and their queens, Mahatma Gandhi's Guest house, origin of rivers Pennar, Palar and Arkavati among others is worth exploring. Now, these may not be quite apparent and you need to put some effort to explore these places. But believe me this is worth a try. For those who are in cycling, Well nothing is better than this  in Bangalore(Although check our fitness level). My European friends love this for cycling on weekend mornings. Just give a try. People are warm and always in welcome mood.
